My work is strongly affected by nostalgic feelings connected to my Midwestern upbringing. Isolated from human contact, the stillness of desolate landscape and old, abandoned farm structures and equipment are a metaphor for loss. A pressing presence of past events is revealed through the raw use of material, rustic colors and dense textures evident in the work. Transient feelings associated with loss obtain permanence within the dark, brooding objects I create allowing for an experience of quiet contemplation and release of emotions connected with a fading out of life.
